GoldMine Case Study - DeTech Firesense Technology
The Business:
DeTech Inc. is a wholesale distributor in the
business of selling, installing, and servicing fire sensing equipment
sold principally to homeowners via in-home sales through a network
of dedicated independent contractors.
Warranty Registration Form:
All information regarding a sale of product is compiled from
the salesperson/installer completing DeTech’s Warranty Registration
Form, which includes not only product and installation location
information, but extensive customer demographic information.
Corporate Use:
DeTech uses this information for these primary purposes:
- Liability protection (knowing what was installed where)
- Liability protection (knowing what was installed where)
- Product Recall potential
- Add-on Sales potential
- Contest / Award dispensation
Dealer Benefits:
In addition, DeTech is committed to systematically delivering to its dealers the following:
- List of people who did not buy full protection
- List of prospects based on demographic profiles (as determined from Warr. Reg. Forms)
- Simple way for them to view and maintain their own customer lists
The Solution:
Make it Simple! It is DeTech's belief that the solution to the above potential pitfall resides in simplicity. That is, to make the entry so simple and the benefits so clear that the dealer's desire to enter the data will be perceived as compulsory and far outweigh any apprehension they may have about actually utilizing technology. It is TSR's responsibility to use the tools at DeTech's and its dealers' disposal (namely MS-Office Suite) to design this simple interface.
GoldMine and MS-Access:
With cooperative feedback and input from DeTech, TSR will design a Microsoft Access database that utilizes a very simple form for the dealers to complete their Warranty Registration information. The completed data will store in the dealer's database for later retrieval (in other words, becomes their customer list), and the dealers will be able to export their files to DeTech via e-mail or regular mail on a diskette.
TSR will train a DeTech employee to use GoldMine's import and merging capability to "transfer-in" all dealers' Warranty Registration Forms, thereby maintaining a Master List of all customers. Since GoldMine has the ability to sort a database many different ways, work with subsets of the database, execute broadcast e-mail and letter documents, and maintain a full audit trail of all text and voice correspondence involving a customer, this tool should be strongly utilized.
